/ Language Training and Assessment
Since 1989, the Association for New Canadians has been delivering English as a Second Language (ESL) training to immigrants and refugees arriving to Newfoundland and Labrador. The English as a Second Language Program is offered at the ESL Adult Training Centre on Smithville Crescent in St. John’s. Operating in a former school, the centre has nine classrooms, a Child Minding Center and a provincially licensed daycare, a computer lab, boardroom facilities, and is the location of AXIS, the Association’s employment and career services centre. In addition, the Association operates the only Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Assessment Centre in the province, and currently has six CLB certified assessors on staff.
