The Association for New Canadians' Bridget Foster was awarded the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador by Premier Tom Marshall on Friday, February 7, 2014. The award is the highest honour bestowed by the province upon its citizens, and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner Newfoundland and Labrador and its residents. Ms. Foster was recognized for over 30 years of service in the immigration/settlement sector. Indeed, Bridget's formidable drive and dedication has been a cornerstone in building immigration policies and programs that enable immigrants and refugees to become fully engaged Canadian citizens across Newfoundland and Labrador...

The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, acknowledged the work of the ANC's Executive Director, Bridget Foster, who will be retiring after 34 years with the organization. On December 11, 2013, Executive Director Bridget Foster announced the establishment of the Association for New Canadians' Fred Coxworthy Scholarship Fund. It was a great pleasure to have Mr. Coxworthy's son, Paul, and grandson, Adam, in attendance at the ESL Training Centre for the announcement of the scholarship.
Fred was a longstanding and dedicated volunteer with the Association for New Canadians for many years, and was always more than willing to offer advice, provide assistance and impart his infinite wisdom upon us. Without Fred's impressive knowledge, immense kindness and everlasting dedication, the Association for New Canadians would never have become the organization it is today.
This $500 scholarship, which will be presented annually to an ESL Training Centre student, will be based on their academic record as well as their involvement in ANC-sponsored activities...

The Association for New Canadians hosted its annual Children's Christmas Party on Friday, December 13, 2013. Children of ANC clients made Christmas decorations and had a snack as they patiently waited for Santa Claus to arrive. The Association for New Canadians held its annual Client Christmas Party on Thursday, December 12, 2013. The event featured a number of performances by students and staff of the ANC's ESL Training Centre, including a visit from a group of mummers! Clients and staff were also given the opportunity to give thanks and best wishes to the Executive Director of the organization, Bridget Foster, before she retires after nearly 35 years of dedicated service at the ANC. This prestigious award recognizes Bridget's long and dedicated service to the Settlement and Integration community

The United Way of Newfoundland and Labrador held a cheque presentation ceremony at the Association for New Canadians' ESL Training Centre on November 13, 2013. Several funders and funding recipients were in attendance, including the Association for New Canadians, which received funding from the United Way to deliver its Diversity Initiative. On September 25, 2013, students and staff of the Association for New Canadians participated in the Terry Fox National School Run Day in order to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation. Participants raised $300 and, on November 7, 2013, a representative from the Terry Fox Foundation visited the Association's ESL Training Centre for a cheque presentation ceremony.
