Taxis

When calling for a taxi, give the dispatcher your address and the address where you are going, and one will usually come and pick you up within ten to fifteen minutes.

To find a local taxi company, look in the Yellow Pages under ‘Taxis’.

Some places like hospitals, hotels and shopping malls have free phones to call for taxis. They are usually located near the public pay phones.

  • It is a good idea to ask the cab dispatcher how much the fee or ‘fare’ will be.
  • If a taxi driver is courteous and helpful, it is customary to give them a tip. Tip taxi drivers about 10%, and a dollar a bag they carry for you (not just unload). Or, at the very least, round fares up to the nearest dollar.
